Journeys Through Time
Poems
In this project we were tasked to explore different types of poetry. We originally started by reading mentor texts of each type of poem before we made one of every kind. Once we had our drafts we chose two that would be our final. The two final poems I chose was an Ode and an advice poem.
Blog Posts
This project is a telling of our experiences throughout the 2nd semester. Our experience of pushing ourselves to the limit physically and mentally told in descriptive writing. Each blog post was capped to 800 words and on this website they are sepereated by each journey we took. You can also find a direct link to all five of mine on that website.
Postcards
This project relates to the first ever journey we did. We went on a hike and had to identify a plant native to San Diego. Once they had a plant chosen they went ahead and researched the plant as well as what uses the Kumeyaay who are the native San Diegans used it for in the past.
Boats
In this project we were tasked to construct a boat out of cardboard. Then challenged to make it cross a small water way. We were given about a total of 4 weeks to design and build our boat. For me it was 3 weeks because I had to miss one week to go pursue an oppurtunity.
Ropes Course Model
In this project students were tasked to scale down an object that was on the ropes course they went to. They had to create a 1:50 scale model of a section of the orange county ropes course. Paired with the model was also a small descriptive writing portion, detailing the immense fear felt while high above. To read the short paragraph click on the button above!
Hike Graphs
In this project students were tasked to gather data from a hike they went on. They had to clean the data and learn how to display that in an effective way to tell the story of that journey. They collected two types of data that being theiur walking speed and a variable of their choosing. I personally chose to do measure my heart rate. The graphs were then displayed on top of each other with one graph being a transpoarent layer on top of the other one.
Animation
In this project we were challenged to do something most people have never done. Make an animation in processingJS. This project was designed to challenge students to get out of their comfort zones. Computers are everywhere and at least being familar with the bare basics of programming is often an over looked skill.
